So earlier today I was watching channel 27...you know, News all the time, that kind of channel...I am bad with the name..its just 27...

So this guy is on there talking about new college requirements that they are hoping to go into effect next year for the incoming freshman.... more english, math and science credits required...Then he says thats unfair to the seniors this year so they are going to look at it for the next year.

Then he proceeds to say that within 3 years a foreign language is going to be required...So I don't have a problem with people who want to learn an extra language, in fact I think it is wonderful...but I don't think it should be required to go to college!

Seriously...I boy decides he wants to go to college for heavy equipment operator...does he really need that foreign language, unless he is going to another country to do his work...he doesn't need it.

Now I know I will hear that Spanish is so common, that everybody should have it as a second language, but since English is the 1st language in the US and people who come here need to know/speak/understand English to get to move here...

I agree I don't think it

I agree I don't think it should be required. My daughter is taking french in High School because she wants to not because she has to. And I think she works harder at it because she wanted to take it. She also works hard at the required classes like math, science, and so forth.

Hmm.... I'd guess you would

Hmm.... I'd guess you would not support my run for the president then, as part of my platform is education reform wich would require teaching foreign languages in elementary school. The rest of the world already teaches secondary languages at that level, and I think it's very important as well.

I can see how it is

I can see how it is important... I just don't think it should be a requirement for college.

I taught my son sign language (I had to learn it first) when he was a baby...Although we aren't fluent in it...we understand each other.
